About our bespoke laser cut wedding and event stationery.
Bespoke laser cut wedding and event stationery by Chartula. Designed exclusively by artist Charlotte Hewson. Renowned for our exquisite laser cut designs. Since 2003.
'I've always designed stationery that I love. Something I'd lust after myself. First and foremost I set out to make a beautiful product. I'm irritatingly fussy about what I create, a perfectionist down to the last detail - ask my long suffering husband Jay. If I don't love it, you'll never see it. Producing a substandard product is unacceptable, but producing a substandard design is unforgivable. I love the journey of creating a bespoke laser cut invitation, translating your story into a made-to-measure design. I like to communicate a bit more than the obvious 'our wedding is in Florence, this is what it looks like'. I run with my imagination. My designs bring out the child in me and I like to let a little of my personality leak into everything I do. I guess that's why I've always kept a tight hold on the design process. We never use freelancers or other designers, when you order Chartula, you get me.'
Chartula creates bespoke laser cut stationery and couture invitations. Luxurious in every way, we take the adorable illustrations of artist and designer Charlotte Hewson and painstakingly print and laser cut them onto the finest paper.
We love design. Illustration, typefaces and colour combos are our forte. We're unique in that everything is designed by Charlotte, right down to the last detail. And it shows, a Chartula laser cut invitation has a distinct look, a graceful charm that you won't find anywhere else.
Always professionally printed, each Chartula piece of stationery is a work of art, and as such only the best will do. We work with the UK's leading laser cutter, which means that (pardon the pun) we're always at the cutting edge of the technology. A relationship we've built up over the ten years we've been laser cutting.
We're proud to produce our wedding stationery entirely in the UK, working with the finest paper mills and printers. We silk screen much of our stationery. We also engrave, letterpress, foil block, litho and digitally print. It all depends on what your bespoke design dictates and of course what you love.
Because you're the real star of our show. We consider it part of our job to tease ideas out of you, even if you don't think you have any. To help you identify what you want your stationery to do for you. To care about the little details that make your wedding unique. So that, you'll come away from your Chartula experience with a laser cut design that's not only to die for, but a perfect fit for you.
Born from a love of beautiful paper, colourful products and an obsession with typography. Charlotte founded Chartula in 2003 above a chip shop on Portobello Road. Two years later, on the whim of a bride, she saw the potential to create something wonderful and designed our first bespoke laser cut invitation. The first of its kind, the lovely Natasha literally screamed with delight when she saw her finished wedding stationery. Naturally we made more, and quite by accident sparked a new trend in stationery design.
Over the years Charlotte's become a bit of an expert at creating illustrations for laser cutting, treating it like an art, telling tales and captivating imaginations. Chartula has built up an enviable list of clients, from Rod Stewart to Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Our bespoke stationery has appeared in countless bridal publications, including Condé Nast Brides, You and Your Wedding, Wedding magazine, on the coolest blogs, as well as on GMTV and Wedding TV. In 2012 Charlotte collaborated with Roger la Borde to produce her 'Love London' range of greetings cards.
In 2010 Charlotte took on her biggest project and became a mother to Daisy. After the birth of her son Hugo in 2012 she decided to put Chartula on hold whilst she embraced motherhood and all its challenges! Today, she designs from her home studio in the Oxfordshire countryside. Chartula accepts a handful of clients each year, offering the most discerning brides bespoke wedding stationery that's second to none.
